You must be 18 or older, or 21 or older where your state or the site requires it, to gamble. If you or someone close to you is struggling, call the National Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-GAMBLER. It is free and confidential.

This page explains how to keep gambling with cryptocurrency within your limits. It covers risks specific to offshore crypto casinos, tools worth looking for, warning signs, and where to get help. Crypto Casinos is an independent comparison site. Gambling here is treated as paid entertainment. It is never a way to earn income, recover losses or solve money problems.

Our disclosure and where we stand

Crypto Casinos may earn a commission if you sign up through some links on this site. Commission does not decide how casinos are ranked. Even so, a site that pays us is still a place where you can lose money. Please read everything below before you deposit anywhere. Our About Us page explains who we are, and our Terms and Conditions cover how the site is used.

The legal grey area, stated plainly

There is no federal legalization of online casinos in the US. Regulated online casino gaming exists only in a handful of states, such as New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island. Those licensed operators do not run on crypto.

Crypto casinos that accept US players are almost always offshore. They hold licenses in places like Curaçao or Anjouan, not from any US regulator. That puts them in a legal grey area for US residents. Rules and enforcement differ by state, and many sites block certain states. Check your own state's laws before playing, and consult a qualified professional if you are unsure.

This matters for responsible play because of what you lose when a site is offshore:

  • You may have no US regulator to complain to if a dispute arises.
  • Self-exclusion tools, limit options and complaint processes can be thinner than at state-regulated operators.
  • Self-exclusion at one site does not carry over to any other site.
  • Offshore sites may not offer the same player protections as state-regulated operators.

We do not advise using false details, VPNs or any workaround to get around state restrictions, identity checks or anti-money-laundering rules. Doing so can breach a site's terms and may leave you unable to withdraw.

Crypto adds its own risks

Gambling already means the odds favor the house over time. Crypto adds extra points of risk.

  • Price volatility. If you deposit Bitcoin or Ethereum, the dollar value of your balance can fall even when you win. It can also rise, but you should never count on that. Stablecoins such as USDT and USDC track the dollar and avoid most price swings, though they carry their own issuer and platform risks.
  • Irreversible transactions. On-chain deposits cannot be reversed. A wrong address or the wrong network can mean permanent loss. Send a small test amount first if you are new to this.
  • Fees and delays. Network fees and confirmation times vary and add to your real cost.
  • Easy, fast deposits. When topping up takes seconds, it is easier to spend more than planned. Set limits before you start.
  • Pseudonymity is not a safeguard. Playing with little or no identity verification can mean fewer checks on age and on how much you are spending. It should never be treated as a way to hide income or avoid taxes.

Winnings and crypto gains may be taxable in the US. This is general information only, so consult a qualified tax professional.

Set your limits before you deposit

  1. Decide a budget from spare entertainment money, not rent, bills, savings or borrowed funds.
  2. Convert it to a dollar figure and stick to it, whichever coin you use.
  3. Decide a time limit for each session.
  4. Use a separate wallet or exchange account just for gambling funds, so the rest of your holdings stay out of reach.
  5. Treat any loss as the cost of the entertainment. Never try to win it back.
  6. Withdraw wins you are happy with, rather than leaving everything to be re-wagered.

Tools to look for at a crypto casino

Features vary by site, and we cannot confirm what each of the casinos on our rankings offers at any given time. Check the site's responsible gambling page before you deposit. Contact support and ask if you cannot find it.

ToolWhat it doesWhat to check
Deposit limitsCaps how much you can add per day, week or monthWhether increases are delayed or instant
Loss limitsStops play after a set lossWhether it covers all game types
Session remindersShows elapsed timeWhether you can set it yourself
Cool-off breaksLocks the account for a short periodMinimum and maximum length
Self-exclusionBlocks your account for a long time or permanentlyWhether it is honored and how to reverse it
Two-factor authenticationProtects your account from takeoverWhether it is available at signup

If a site offers none of these, that is a reason to deposit less or choose another. You can also block gambling sites on your devices, and use your wallet or exchange's own limits to restrict outgoing transfers.

Bonuses and cashback: read the conditions first

Casinos on our rankings advertise deposit matches, free spins, rakeback and cashback. Examples include BetPanda's 10% weekly cashback, CoinCasino's 200% deposit bonus up to $30,000 and Cryptorino's 100% match up to 1 BTC plus 10% weekly cashback. We have not verified the full terms of these promotions here. Wagering requirements, time limits, game restrictions, maximum bets and eligibility rules usually apply, and they differ by site.

  • A bonus does not lower the house edge or make a loss less likely.
  • Wagering requirements can oblige you to bet many times the bonus before withdrawing.
  • Cashback and rakeback return part of what you lost or wagered. They are not winnings, and they should not be a reason to keep playing.
  • If a bonus nudges you to deposit more than you planned, skip it.
  • Breaking bonus terms can void winnings, so read them before opting in.

Our casino pages cover the offers in more detail with their conditions.

Warning signs to take seriously

  • Betting more than you can afford, or using money meant for essentials
  • Chasing losses or raising stakes to win back what you lost
  • Selling or moving other crypto holdings to keep playing
  • Hiding your play from family or friends
  • Feeling irritable or anxious when you cut back
  • Gambling to escape stress, low mood or other problems
  • Losing track of time or of how much you have deposited

If several of these sound familiar, stop depositing and talk to someone. Gambling cannot fix money troubles and often makes them worse.

Where to get help in the US

  • National Problem Gambling Helpline: 1-800-GAMBLER. Free, confidential support.
  • Your state's problem gambling resources. Many states run their own helplines and treatment programs. Search for your state's council or health department.
  • A doctor, counselor or financial advisor. They can help with debt, anxiety or depression linked to gambling.

If you want to stop, you can also ask a casino to close your account. Withdraw your balance first and remove saved wallet addresses and payment links.

Supporting someone else

Stay calm and avoid blame. Ask open questions, listen, and encourage them to contact the helpline. Do not lend money to cover gambling debts or give them access to your wallet. Family members can call 1-800-GAMBLER for advice too.

Age and eligibility

You must be at least 18 to gamble online, and some states and sites set the minimum at 21. We do not target anyone below the legal age. Casinos may ask for proof of age at any stage, including at withdrawal. If you share a device, keep wallets and accounts away from minors and use parental controls.

Quick checklist before every session

  1. Am I 18 or 21 or older as required, and have I checked my state's laws?
  2. Is this money I can afford to lose entirely?
  3. Have I set a deposit amount and time limit?
  4. Do I understand any bonus terms I accepted?
  5. Am I playing for entertainment and in a clear frame of mind?

If any answer is no, wait. Questions about how this site works can go through Contact Us.
